The Mentor

Kalamani, Dr.Jyoti Swaroop Sharma is an accomplished Artist, restorer and a conservator of paintings. A realistic painter in his initial days, he did oil on canvas and Pichwai painting on cloth. He keenly observed the Munnawat Work and lavish use of gold in Forts and Palaces and felt the importance of conserving this valuable skilful craft. He kept this ancient art of “Gold Emboss Painting” alive for more than fifty years now on the variety of surfaces and crafted the shields, sword cases, pitchers and many more with this unique art.

He was conferred with the “National Award” in the year 1990 by the President of India. He represented his work in various parts of India including the famous “Surajkund Crafts Mela” and “Dilli Haat” multiple times. He had also exhibited his work at Vienna and Bangkok representing India, sponsored by Ministry of Textiles. Prince Charles was elated to see his collection of work during his visit to Jodhpur.
